Our journey through Italy continued on to Rome, the historic capital city that is bursting with things to see and do. We only had one day in Rome, so we tried to make the most of it by visiting as many sights as we could.
Our first stop was the Coliseum, one of Rome's most iconic landmarks. We did a tour of the ruins and then went inside to explore the interior. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us around, but we must admit that we would have preferred to wander around on our own without the constraints of following a guide. That's just our personal preference, though.
On our way to the south of Italy we stopped in Pompeii where we visited the ancient ruins. This fascinating site offers a unique opportunity to step back in time and explore the remnants of a city that was buried in ash and pumice during the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD. As you wander through the ruins, you'll have the opportunity to see the remains of houses, temples, public buildings, and more. You'll also find a wealth of artifacts on display, including pottery, jewelry, and other everyday objects that give a glimpse into the lives of the people who lived here.
The Amalfi Coast is a must-see destination in Italy, with its stunning stretch of coastline and picturesque villages. We were lucky enough to visit the towns of Sorrento and Positano, and we were amazed by the beauty of this region. The cliffs, crystal clear waters, and natural surroundings are truly breathtaking, and the drive along the coast is an experience you'll never forget.
In Sorrento, we ate at Pizzeria da Franco, which is a must-visit spot if you're in the area. The pizza was a real delight, and we highly recommend giving it a try. We also had the pleasure of staying at the guesthouse Casale Guarracino, where the hosts went above and beyond to make our stay truly special. They were so welcoming and helpful, offering recommendations for local activities and assisting us with any questions or needs we had. We felt truly at home, and we can't thank them enough for their kindness and hospitality.
Overall, the Amalfi Coast is a destination that truly has something for everyone. Whether you're exploring the charming villages, admiring the natural beauty, or indulging in the local cuisine, you're sure to have an unforgettable experience.
