We started our Italian journey in the north of the country, in a small town called Aviano. The town is known in the area for its American Air Force Base and genuine local community. The landscape in the area is incredible because you are surrounded by the Dolomites mountain range.
During our time in Aviano we traveled to Monte Santo di Lussari about 2 hours north where we we able to hike and explore the area. The landscape is breathtaking as the Dolomites mountain are all around you, on top of the mountain there is a church, smalls shops, and even a restaurants where we were able to stop and enjoy a meal with the family. A cable car can bring you up the mountain, usually the area is for skying in the winter months. We were fortunate enough to travel at numerous places with beautiful mountains, but the Dolomites were absolutely breathtaking, so immense it is almost surreal.
About 50 minutes east of Monte Santo di Lussari were Lago di Fusine, a small lake with crystal clear water and surrounded by mountains. A peaceful place to walk and explore the forest. The interesting part about this area is that you are about 30 minutes away from the border with Slovenia and Austria, you can sense the melting pot of cultures that stems from this closeness.
The north of Italy is also the place of the iconic city of Venice. We spent a day walking the streets of Venice trying different food. Venice was crowded a very busy but we knew before we went. Keep in mind that you have to park your car at the entrance of Venice and walk to the city itself or you can take a train or water boat. We were there around sunset time and it was beautiful.
To keep us connected during our trip we did not have to buy a physical sim card. We simply downloaded the Airalo app and bought an e-sim card on the app. Truly amazing especially while traveling no more swapping sim card and having the fear of losing it. Check out their link here.
